Proxim GX80™ | High Capacity 80 GHz Wireless Fiber Extension Platform

Proxim GX80™
High Capacity 80 GHz Wireless Fiber Extension Platform

Proxim Wireless

Transparent
Transport Architecture

GX80 operates as a completely transparent Layer 1 wireless transport platform, functionally equivalent to a direct fiber connection.

High-Capacity
10 Gbps Transport

GX80 delivers up to 10 Gbps full-duplex throughput over the 80 GHz E-band spectrum, enabling high-capacity wireless transport for backhaul and fiber extension applications.

Lightly Licensed
80 GHz Spectrum

GX80 operates in the licensed or lightly licensed 80 GHz E-band spectrum (71–76 GHz and 81–86 GHz), enabling high-capacity wireless transport with coordinated interference management.

Deterministic
Ultra-Low Latency

The GX80 achieves deterministic one-way link latency of approximately 6.5 microseconds, Performance is verified via RFC 2544 testing using 1518-byte frames.

Management
Plane Isolation

GX80 separates the management and data planes through complete physical and logical isolation, ensuring that user traffic remains independent from device management functions.

Wireless
Fiber Extension

GX80 enables rapid deployment of high-capacity transport links where fiber installation is impractical, cost-prohibitive, or time constrained.

What is GX80?
GX80 is a transparent 80 GHz wireless transport platform designed for high-capacity point-to-point connectivity with deterministic, ultra-low latency and full traffic transparency.

How is GX80 different from conventional E-band radios?
Unlike traditional millimeter-wave radios that process traffic inside the device, GX80 uses a transparent transport architecture that operates at Layer 1 of the OSI model and is totally protocol independent. The major benefits are that the unit is not limited to Layer 2 Ethernet frames or Layer 3 IP transport.

What does “transparent transport” mean?
GX80 passes traffic directly from the interface to the millimeter-wave modem without switching, routing, or packet inspection. All protocols and traffic types pass unchanged, similar to a direct fiber connection. This approach means GX80 link achieves a constant link latency of 6.5 microseconds, plus the propagation delay introduced by the distance between endpoints. This is verified via RFC 2544 testing using 1518-byte frames.

What throughput does GX80 support?
GX80 supports up to 10 Gbps full-duplex throughput over the 80 GHz E-band spectrum.

What are the benefits of deterministic latency?
By eliminating in-line packet processing, buffering, and queuing, GX80 maintains fixed microsecond-level system latency independent of traffic load. This improves predictability for performance-sensitive applications.

Does GX80 support encryption?
GX80 does not perform encryption within the radio itself. Instead, it integrates with standard network-based security technologies such as MACsec and IPsec, allowing security policies to remain within the existing network infrastructure.

Is the management interface isolated from user traffic?
Yes. The management and data planes are physically and logically isolated, ensuring that management functions cannot access or interfere with user traffic.

What antennas are supported?
GX80 supports external high-gain parabolic antennas, including, 1-foot, and 2-foot options, enabling flexible deployment based on distance and availability requirements.

How do I determine the right antenna or link configuration?
Link design depends on factors including path length, rain zone, and target availability. Proxim provides a dedicated GX link calculator to assist with deployment planning and antenna selection.

Is the 80 GHz spectrum licensed?
GX80 operates in licensed or lightly licensed E-band spectrum, depending on regional regulatory requirements. Licensing models vary by country and may include link registration or coordinated deployment frameworks.
