What is the Stratum® X5 designed for?
The Stratum X5 is a high-capacity 5 GHz fixed wireless radio designed for applications such as video surveillance networks, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), security infrastructure, municipal connectivity, and broadband wireless links. It provides reliable, high-throughput connectivity where fiber is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

Can the Stratum X5 be used for both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint networks?
Yes. The Stratum X5 supports point-to-point (PtP) and point-to-multipoint (PtMP) deployments. It can operate as a PtP endpoint, PtMP client (CPE), or PtMP base station.

How many clients can a Stratum X5 base station support?
A Stratum X5 configured as a PtMP base station can support up to 64 client radios with a license upgrade.

What throughput does the Stratum X5 deliver?
The Stratum X5 delivers over 1.5 Gbps TCP throughput and up to 1.8 Gbps UDP throughput, enabling high-bandwidth applications such as HD and 4K video transport.

What frequency range does the radio support?
The radio operates across the 5.150 – 5.850 GHz band, providing flexibility for deployment in licensed or unlicensed spectrum depending on regional regulations.

What advantages does 4×4 MIMO provide?
The 4×4 MIMO architecture improves both capacity and reliability. In 4×4:4 mode, a 20 MHz channel can deliver up to twice the throughput of typical 2×2 systems. In 4×4:2 mode, mirrored data streams improve link stability in challenging RF environments.

What network interfaces are available?
The Stratum X5 includes 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and supports an optional 10 Gigabit SFP+ interface for high-speed fiber integration.

What security features are supported?
The Stratum X5 supports AES-128 wireless encryption, with an upgrade option to AES-256, helping protect data traffic across the wireless link.
For secure system management, the platform also supports TLS 1.3 for encrypted web management sessions and multi-user login with role-based access, allowing administrators to create accounts with Administrator or Monitor permissions.

Is the Stratum X5 suitable for harsh outdoor environments?
Yes. The radio is designed for outdoor fixed wireless deployments, and the included tilt-and-swivel mounting kit allows precise alignment for reliable link performance.

What is a 5 GHz point-to-point wireless bridge?
A 5 GHz point-to-point wireless bridge creates a high-speed network connection between two locations using wireless radios instead of fiber or copper. Systems like the Stratum X5 can deliver multi-gigabit throughput, making them ideal for connecting buildings, surveillance systems, transportation infrastructure, and remote facilities.

When should fixed wireless be used instead of fiber?
Fixed wireless is often used when fiber installation is too expensive, time-consuming, or impractical. Wireless links can be deployed quickly to connect locations such as intersections, campuses, industrial sites, or surveillance networks while still delivering high-capacity connectivity.

Can the Stratum X5 support high-bandwidth video applications?
Yes. With over 1.5 Gbps TCP throughput, the Stratum X5 is well suited for HD and 4K video transport, making it ideal for city surveillance systems, traffic monitoring, campus security, and industrial video networks.

What is the difference between point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless networks?
A point-to-point (PtP) link connects two locations directly. A point-to-multipoint (PtMP) network allows one base station to communicate with multiple client radios, enabling efficient connectivity for multiple cameras, intersections, or remote sites.

What factors affect wireless link performance?
Wireless performance can be influenced by distance, line-of-sight conditions, RF interference, antenna alignment, and channel bandwidth. Technologies such as 4×4 MIMO, advanced modulation, and proper network planning help maximize link capacity and reliability.
